As far as I’m concerned, Minnie Riperton had the most beautiful and distinct voice of our time. When she passed away from breast cancer in 1979 at the tender age of 31, the world lost an incredible, incomparable talent.
As you watch and listen to the following video of her most famous song, “Loving You” (1975), pay particular attention to the highest notes that she hits. They are called the “Whistle Register.” Many people initially think it is some kind of special effect, but I can assure you it is 100% real! It is the highest note of the human vocal range and only a handful of people on earth can actually pull it off.
And keep this business thought in mind as you listen:
Each and every one of us is born and bred with unique talents! Through hard work, learning, experience, introspection and dedication we DISCOVER, polish and chisel our talents. Business and specifically business-blogging is about finding YOUR UNIQUE VOICE! It’s about finding those unique aspects of your personality, style and knowledge-base. It’s about uncovering your overt and covert talents. It is about finding the proper “notes” in which you can most effectively speak to and connect with people.
It’s about finding the Minnie Riperton that lives within you and finding your own whistle-register. There are many, many voices out there. How will you find your incomparable, unparalleled intonation to open the doors to the hearts and minds of your audience?
Minnie Riperton was in a class of her own! She was a unique, once-in-a-lifetime talent. She had the voice of an angel.
I hope inspiration from this song will help you on the journey to finding your own UNIQUE VOICE:
Note of Interest: You’ll notice towards the end of the song the words, Maya, Maya, Maya. The words are the name of Minnie’s daughter, the American actress Maya Rudolf. The song started out as a lullaby that Minnie would sing to Maya when she put her to sleep at night.
